ST. GEORGE — The remnant circulation of Hurricane Kay is triggering a final round of thunderstorms with heavy rain set to douse the southwest desert, according to a flood watch issued by the National Weather Service.

The flood watch has been in effect since late Sunday night and has been extended to Wednesday afternoon. It forecasts the possibility of flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall in portions of northwest Arizona and southern Nevada, which includes the cities of Bullhead, Moapa, Laughlin, Hayford Pk, Hoover Dam, Colorado City, Mesquite, Mohave Valley, Mt Trumbull, Overton, Henderson, Oatman, Pipe Spring National Monument, North Las Vegas, Tuweep, Las Vegas, Boulder City, and Western Grand Canyons.

At 2:28 p.m. Monday, the weather service issued an additional flood watch for Lower Washington County, Iron and Kane counties, Zion National Park and the cities of Springdale, Ivins, St George and Hurricane. On Tuesday morning, the weather service also issued a flash flood warning for these areas.

Several rounds of thunderstorms with heavy rain are forecasted for the watch area, the weather service adds, and excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. The public should monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to take action.

Turn around. Don’t drown.
